Loft Insulation

THERMAL INSULATION SAVES ENERGY AND MONEY, IT HELPS FIGHT GLOBAL WARMING AND CLIMATE CHANGE, IT MAKES YOUR HOUSE MORE COMFORTABLE TO LIVE IN, IT INCREASES RESISTANCE OF YOUR HOME TO FIRE.

WHY NOT LET NIC TAKE THE HASSLE OUT OF YOUR LOFT INSULATION

Did you know that without loft insulation it is very likely that you are losing up to a third of the heat in your property through the roof?  An easy and very effective way of preventing this is to fully insulate your loft.

If you currently have no loft insulation and you install the recommended depth of 270mm then you could save around £155 per year on your heating bills and around 1 tonne of carbon dioxide per year (CO2).

If your loft is already insulated but the insulation thickness is less than 270mm then you should consider adding additional layer of loft insulation in order to reduce your heating costs.

The following table provided by the Energy Saving Trust give approximate savings and paybacks for loft insulation however the typical cost provided does not include any financial support or grants which are readily available.

There are various types of loft insulation available, the most popular is mineral wool although if you are seeking a natural alternative then real wool is also available.

USING A CONTRACTOR OFTEN WORKS OUT CHEAPER THAN DIY AS YOU CAN THEN GAIN ACCESS TO THE GRANTS AVAILABLE.

How Loft Insulation is Installed

The rolls of insulation are carefully laid out between the floor joists of the loft and then over the joists (should they be still visible).  Walk boards can then be laid over the joists in order to provide safe access within the loft area.  Proper protective clothing must be worn.
